PVD Coating

We offer a very good range of high quality PVD Coatings from our plant at Birmingham. During alloy treatment PVD adds a wear resistance coating to the material. There are multiple type of PVD - another is Iontec PVD. The central location of the site and the Aalberts Surface Technologies transport network mean fast turnaround times can be offered to customers. This, coupled with a short coating cycle times provides a rapid Coating Service to the whole of the UK. 

PVD (Physical Vapour Deposited) Coatings are extremely hard (typically 3 to 4 times harder than tool steel), often have a low coefficient of friction and are extremely wear resistant. Coating thickness is in the range 2 to 5 microns and this significantly improves wear resistance. Apart from the common TiN (Titanium Nitride), TiCN and CrN (Chromium Nitride) coatings available, Aalberts Surface Technologies also deposit a range of harder AlTiN coatings, including Variantic®and Exxtral Plus®. These coatings have been designed by Eifeler GmbH and the resulting properties are proven to work in a wide range of more arduous applications.

PVD coatings are traditionally applied to high speed steel or cemented carbide tools and dies to improve tool life. However they also prevent anti galling (of stainless steels for example) and are used as scratch and tarnish resistant colour coatings in decorative applications. PVD adds a wear resistant coating following either induction hardening or flame hardening. The coating may be a duplex PVD coating, and often it is a decorative coating for steel or other metals.
